City of Portland's Ecoroof Team
BES Ecoroof Design-Build
An exerpt from Terrafluxus.com
The Green Above Ground team is pleased to announce that we have been selected by the City of Portland for their recent request for proposals for design building services for ecoroofs. On June 30th, the City announced the ‘Intent to Award’ the contract to Snyder Roofing, the prime consultant and lead for our team. Other team members include TERRA.fluxus, Teufel Nursery, Cascade Design Professionals, and Verde.

The team already has a long track record of current and past projects throughout Portland, and this project will allow us to expand our current marketing efforts through additional pathways that will increase the overall number of projects locally but also provide ongoing materials for the City to use. Our basic package of information in Phase I includes a number of current activities:
* Development of materials (print and web) related to dispelling ecoroof myths and providing real examples of case studies with performance and cost data
* Targeted advertising and articles in trade-related publications aimed at key market leaders and project decision makers, including publications and other outreach activities targeting minority communities
* Further refinement of the Green Above Ground website (www.greenaboveground.com) to include project examples and information to possible ecoroof clients
* Tours to showcase built work and address roofing, design, structural, installation and maintenance activities

A Memo from the Teufel Family
Last month we asked if you would participate in a short survey to let us know how we are doing, and to identify areas for improvement. We sincerely appreciate all of the responses. Feedback (both positive and not so positive) is a valuable tool to guide us moving forward. For those of you who missed the opportunity to participate last month, we have included the survey again, here.
Our featured project this month (Rain, Rain, Go Away ...) is an exceptional outdoor living space. After experiencing the wettest June on record, I know that my family would make use of a similar structure. See if you agree.

Now that the weather may finally be cooperating, this is the perfect time to take advantage of the biggest plant inventory reduction sale in our 120 year history. More details can be found in the Summer Plant Sale article below.
Summer Plant Sale
Summer Plant Sale - June and July Specials
We like plants as much as the next person. Alright, we probably like plants better than the average enthusiast. After all, Teufel Nursery has been the leading grower of premium northwest nursery stock for over 100 years. But enough is enough! The combination of a slow economy plus the wettest spring in memory has resulted in us having a few more plants than we really had planned on inventorying.
Time for the biggest Plant Inventory Reduction sale in our 120 year history.
Our Kent, Washington sales yard is offering our entire inventory of Teufel grown nursery stock at 40 to 50% off of our wholesale price! Additionally, our entire inventory of horticultural tools and supplies is marked down 25%.

Portland's Rose Quarter
Portland's Rose Quarter
Our featured project this month is Portland's Rose Quarter. We have a long term relationship with this property, so we are particularly proud of their achievement as the first major sports arena to become LEED Gold certified. Congratulations are definitely in order for this huge accomplishment.

The Rose Garden, home to the Portland Trail Blazers
Sporting events, first rate entertainment, and large scale gatherings all combine to make the Rose Quarter one of the hot spots in Portland. As the home to the Portland Trail Blazers, it is fitting that the Rose Garden should be the first major sports arena in the U.S. to receive a LEED Gold certification. We applaud their efforts, determination, and commitment to this undertaking.

Central location, proximity to mass transit, and expanded bike parking are all factors considered in determining eligibility for LEED certification. However, we like the landscape reflected in the glass.
