Portland Business Journal - by Wendy Culverwell
Date: Wednesday, June 15, 2011, 2:55pm PDT - Last Modified: Wednesday, June 15, 2011, 3:03pm PDT
Teufel Nursery Inc. hit a post-bankruptcy milestone Tuesday when it paid off a major creditor.
The Portland-based nursery and landscaping business filed for protection from creditors in 2009 and successfully exited court supervision on Feb. 1, 2010 with a plan to repay its creditors.
Tuesday, Larry Teufel, president, said the company satisfied its debt to Textron Financial Corp. , a former lender. The fourth-generation family-owned firm filed under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code after Textron yanked its lender relationship.

A Memo from the Teufel Family
Last month we asked if you would participate in a short survey to let us know how we are doing, and to identify areas for improvement. We sincerely appreciate all of the responses. Feedback (both positive and not so positive) is a valuable tool to guide us moving forward. For those of you who missed the opportunity to participate last month, we have included the survey again, here.
Our featured project this month (Rain, Rain, Go Away ...) is an exceptional outdoor living space. After experiencing the wettest June on record, I know that my family would make use of a similar structure. See if you agree.

Now that the weather may finally be cooperating, this is the perfect time to take advantage of the biggest plant inventory reduction sale in our 120 year history. More details can be found in the Summer Plant Sale article below.

A Memo from the Teufel Family
Here at Teufel, we have always known that it takes more than just premium plants to create an exceptional landscape. And it takes more than mowers, trimmers and shears to maintain your landscape investment. It has always been the people who make the difference. It is our team of dedicated nursery and landscape professionals who really set us apart and make us who we are today.

Linda Teufel - Vice President
Periodically we would like to introduce to you a few of the people behind the scenes. Those who have made a special contribution, been involved in one of our unique projects, or who have a message that is particularly worthwhile. Cheryl Cone, a long time Teufel team member and incredibly talented landscape professional, is featured in "Team Approach" She was also the driving force behind our featured project this month, "If dogs dream ..." I know you will enjoy reading about Cheryl and her very special project.

Out with the Old - In with the New!
Let me start by wishing all of you a very Happy New Year!
I think it is safe to say that 2009 is one year that nobody will miss. There was no need to turn on the television or check the internet since the message was always the same - more bad news.

Larry Teufel, President
