Spring Fever
After a long, wet, cold, and unusually snowy winter, spring is finally here (I know this for sure since I just got my first sun burn of the season).

In addition to applying SPF 30, there are other things I need to remember to do. Flowering trees bloom without much coaxing, although they do benefit from structural pruning (see related article). Many flowering shrubs benefit from dead heading (removing of spent flowers) to maximize blooming the following year. You will see our crews do this as part of the late spring annual pruning.
Flowering bulbs such as Tulips, Daffodils, and Hyacinths can be the real star in your landscape as they can be easily installed in a new area to create a splash of color and draw attention to focal points. Of course, in order to enjoy them in the spring, you first needed to order them planted the previous fall (see your friendly Teufel Account Manager for this). Bulbs are removed as part of the summer annual rotation in order to maintain vigor, uniform installations, and the opportunity for a fresh display the following year. In your home garden the foliage of random plantings can be left on, allowing the bulbs to come back the following year.
Summer annuals will be installed once the winter Pansies are past their prime. Using a light weight soil mixture and time release fertilizing is the key to a beautiful display of annuals. For a little something different, we have a great selection of perennials that can be incorporated into your displays to add variety. Our Account Managers are your best resource for some fun ideas to mix it up.
Enjoy the weather - we all deserve it!
