A Memo from the Teufel Family
I'm actually looking forward to Halloween this year. After what we have all been through this past year, I know for a fact that I have already encountered the most scary thing out there ... the economy (made you shudder just thinking about it, didn't I?).
As with most things, once you understand something, it isn't quite as bad as it
first seemed. The stock market is recovering. Home sales are slowly returning
here in the northwest. And there have actually been a number of great projects that we have been involved with this year.
Here are just a sampling of the words of appreciation and support that we have received from satisfied customers and business associates in the past few weeks.
"It had been a few years since I had contracted with Teufel, but they have always performed on difficult or challenging projects. When it was time to build our new headquarters building with its tight schedule, Teufel was the first name I thought of. I know we made the right decision when we selected Teufel." -- Mike Nichols, Director of Real Estate and Facilities for Nintendo, Redmond, WA.
"Teufel Landscape has performed exceptionally on our projects in the Troutdale Business Center. The large, complex site conditions challenged them to excel beyond our expectations in performance, schedule and cost. Just a project of this shear size would have demanded the most from any landscaper. But Teufel met this challenge head on and staffed the project accordingly. Add to this that Teufel was a partner in developing solutions to challenges, not just presenting them. They have acted as our site partner, not just a subcontractor. Skanska would have no issue recommending "We have worked with Teufel on countless projects over the years. No matter what size the job, or how complex the scope, the one thing we can count on is that Teufel always figures out how to meet or exceed expectations. Having Teufel on the job means that we all sleep better!" Mark Brumbaugh, Brumbaugh & Associates, Landscape Architecture, Seattle, WA.
them to other owners and contractors to facilitate their project demands." – Gordon Childress, Senior V.P. Skanska
Here at Teufel we could not be more proud of our contribution to these exceptional projects.
It really puts a smile on my face. Happy Halloween!!

Why install plants on a wall?

Haven't heard of a "green wall" yet? How about a "vertical garden"? It was new to us as well. But when we were called on to install one of the first vertical gardens designed by the world renowned French Botanist, Patrick Blanc, for the Goodwill - Milgard Work Opportunity Center in central Tacoma, Washington, we literally “jumped at the opportunity".
At twenty-one feet tall and forty-two feet wide, this is actually one of the smaller projects that Patrick Blanc has designed. And yet it is perfectly scaled to this space.
The planting scheme is based on symbiotic relationships between plant species. Each wall is a unique combination of species, colors and foliage textures that change and evolve through the seasons. Teufel's has long been known for our environmental work throughout the Pacific Northwest.

So it only made sense that our expertise should be tapped when a cutting edge environmental project, pioneered in Europe, made its way to the US. As with a green roof, the vertical garden has many benefits beyond aesthetics. Reduction of rainwater run-off, significant reduction of summer ambient temperature, air cleansing while releasing oxygen, and a stunning work of art.
Although the installation was challenging, our crews quickly adapted to the scaffolding and fall protection. We think you will agree that the result is nothing less than spectacular.
We know that we will be installing many more of these beauties in the near future.
Restructuring Update
As has been our goal from the beginning, we are pleased to announce that our plan for financial reorganization has been filed with the court, right on time. We know that many of you are just as anxious as us to hear the outcome. We promise to keep you posted as soon as we hear more. In the mean time, we continue to provide quality work, on time and on budget. It is what we do best.
