Portland's Rose Quarter

Portland's Rose Quarter

Our featured project this month is Portland's Rose Quarter. We have a long term relationship with this property, so we are particularly proud of their achievement as the first major sports arena to become LEED Gold certified. Congratulations are definitely in order for this huge accomplishment.

The Rose Garden, home to the Portland Trail Blazers

Sporting events, first rate entertainment, and large scale gatherings all combine to make the Rose Quarter one of the hot spots in Portland. As the home to the Portland Trail Blazers, it is fitting that the Rose Garden should be the first major sports arena in the U.S. to receive a LEED Gold certification. We applaud their efforts, determination, and commitment to this undertaking.

Central location, proximity to mass transit, and expanded bike parking are all factors considered in determining eligibility for LEED certification. However, we like the landscape reflected in the glass.

The Allison Inn & Spa

Our feature project this month, The Allison Inn & Spa in Newberg, Oregon, is a stunning example of an idea brought to life by a team of dedicated visionaries. We are extremely proud of our contribution to this exceptional project.

Teufel was brought in early on once it was identified just how much plant material was needed. A combined 70,000 trees, shrubs and perennials were sourced and grown for this landscape installation.

Plant material was considered to be more than just the landscape, but actually a key component to the spirit of The Allison. We know that great grandfather Gustav would be pleased to know his vision is part of this exciting new resort.

Spa Treatment

The Allison Inn & Spa was an idea that took on a life of its own. First imagined by Joan Austin, President of Springbrook Properties, as a Bed & Breakfast nestled within the heart of the Oregon Wine Country, the results are somewhat more ... ambitious.

85 guest rooms offer a wide variety of accommodations, even for the family pet. Additionally, a full service spa, meeting rooms, and event venues are all available. The signature restaurant (Jory), lounge, and wine cellar are quickly becoming legendary.

What makes The Allison a truly special place is that from the beginning it was conceived as much more than a place to go or stay. It is on track for LEED Gold certification, having incorporated eco-roofs, solar collectors, photo-voltaic cells, and an impressive list of sustainable management practices. By importing 70,000 trees, shrubs and perennials, The Allison has achieved a net agricultural gain, meaning that there is significantly more vegetation on site than was displaced during construction. We like hearing that.

If Dogs Dream...

Cheryl Cone, a long time Teufel team member and incredibly talented landscape professional, is  the driving force behind our featured project this month, "If dogs dream ..." I know you will enjoy reading about Cheryl and her very special project.

If dogs dream....

... would they ever imagine this as their dog run?

Probably not - but being able to spend quality time with the family pet was a factor in moving ahead with this challenging landscape renovation in the West Hills of Portland.

No question, the steep terrain from the deck down to the lower yard left little useable space for any activity. Cheryl Cone (see Team Approach below) had worked with the homeowners previously on their front yard, so naturally she was their first choice to spearhead this ambitious next phase.
