The Allison Inn & Spa
Our feature project this month, The Allison Inn & Spa in Newberg, Oregon, is a stunning example of an idea brought to life by a team of dedicated visionaries. We are extremely proud of our contribution to this exceptional project.
Teufel was brought in early on once it was identified just how much plant material was needed. A combined 70,000 trees, shrubs and perennials were sourced and grown for this landscape installation.
Plant material was considered to be more than just the landscape, but actually a key component to the spirit of The Allison. We know that great grandfather Gustav would be pleased to know his vision is part of this exciting new resort.
Spa Treatment

The Allison Inn & Spa was an idea that took on a life of its own. First imagined by Joan Austin, President of Springbrook Properties, as a Bed & Breakfast nestled within the heart of the Oregon Wine Country, the results are somewhat more ... ambitious.
85 guest rooms offer a wide variety of accommodations, even for the family pet. Additionally, a full service spa, meeting rooms, and event venues are all available. The signature restaurant (Jory), lounge, and wine cellar are quickly becoming legendary.

What makes The Allison a truly special place is that from the beginning it was conceived as much more than a place to go or stay. It is on track for LEED Gold certification, having incorporated eco-roofs, solar collectors, photo-voltaic cells, and an impressive list of sustainable management practices. By importing 70,000 trees, shrubs and perennials, The Allison has achieved a net agricultural gain, meaning that there is significantly more vegetation on site than was displaced during construction. We like hearing that.

Guests are encouraged to walk the extensive trail system to access the outdoor venues and four distinct areas: vineyards, woodlands, estate gardens, and parklands. Visit the Chef's Garden, a one acre area where seasonal vegetable and herbs are raised, harvested, and consumed on site. Flowers grown in this garden are used inside for arrangements. Much of the 35 acre site is planted in a meadow mix that requires minimal irrigation, less mowing, and no supplemental fertilizer.

The concept was for the Inn to fit within the natural setting, blending in and looking as if it had always been there. Teufel was brought in to both provide the substantial amount of plant material and to work our landscape magic.

Over 30 semi truck loads of plant material were shipped to the site.
Skilled coordination was required to accomplish this installation within the given timeframe.

The Allison has received local, regional, and national acclaim since opening fall of 2009. We are very proud of our contribution to this success and our on-going involvement providing maintenance services.

Team Approach

Jeff Timberman
Nursery Division Manager
Jeff Timberman's career with Teufel spans close to a quarter century. As Nursery Division Manager, Jeff oversees production, sales, plant purchasing, and new product development. Jeff and his team coordinate the plant material needed for every landscape project that Teufel tackles. His propagation and production specialists grow many of the plants needed for Teufel landscape installations. Plants are also brought in from a number of other specialty growers from around the northwest.
Of course the challenge is making sure that all plants needed are ready on time and of proper size and quality. After all, a Teufel landscape installation is most recognized for the quality plant material used.
One of Jeff's most recent projects was a contract to produce 230,000 shrubs and ground cover for the Brightwater Treatment Facility in Seattle. The main advantage to contract growing plant material for a specific job is that you have absolute control over availability, quality control, staging and delivery to the job site. Many more projects are taking advantage of this service offered by Teufel. Contact your Teufel representative for your next project.
